This RC-scale accessory is made to give fine incremental control over axial spacing and gear mesh in model drivetrains. Drive gear shims are thin spacers placed between mating gears or between a gear and a bearing surface to correct unwanted play, reduce binding, and improve alignment without replacing major drivetrain components.
Fitting is straightforward on most hobby drivetrains: remove the gear in question, add or remove a shim to change the axial position, then reassemble and check mesh while rotating slowly. Small changes in shim thickness can noticeably change noise, wear patterns, and the overall feel of the drivetrain, so make adjustments in small steps and re-check clearance.
For tuning, these shims are a low-cost method to refine gear engagement when aiming for quieter running or reduced backlash. They are intended solely for use on scale RC models and for incremental setup work on the bench or at the track.
