RD-630P spur hub for drift use

The RD-630P is a lightweight spur gear hub made as a direct replacement for Yokomo drift platforms in the RD, SD, and MD families. Its larger-diameter profile holds the spur gear closer to the gear case, reducing vibration and helping to maintain consistent mesh under the lateral loads common in drifting.

This hub positioning also lessens sideways stress on the top shaft during abrupt throttle inputs, contributing to a more immediate and predictable acceleration feel. The hub profile is shaped to improve spur retention and deliver smoother rotation with fewer harsh impulses.

When fitting the RD-630P in place of the series-standard spur gear hubs (for example Y4-630A, Y2-630PA, Y2-630RA), be aware the set-screw location differs from those standard hubs. Replacing the hub may require the matching aluminum top shaft RD-631 to align the screw fixing position correctly.

Choose the RD-630P when you want a larger-diameter hub to improve spur stability and cut vibration; confirm top-shaft compatibility and fit the RD-631 aluminum top shaft if the set-screw position does not match.

Will the RD-630P install on my RD/SD/MD chassis without machining?

The hub fits the listed RD/SD/MD models, but inspect the set-screw location before final assembly. Some original top shafts may not line up and swapping to the RD-631 aluminum top shaft will correct the screw position.

Will this hub noticeably alter gear mesh?

Because the spur is held closer to the gear case, mesh can shift slightly. Check and fine-tune the mesh during installation to ensure quiet engagement and reliable contact under lateral loads.

Do I need a specific top shaft to secure the set screw?

When replacing some standard housings the set-screw hole is in a different location; the RD-631 aluminum top shaft is the intended match to align the fixing point correctly.

What handling difference will I feel after fitting this hub?

Expect improved spur retention and less vibration, which translates to smoother rotation and a more direct throttle response during drift transitions.
