The real USS England was a turbo-electric (TE) destroyer escort commissioned in December 1943 and named for Ensign John Charles England. During 1944 she served in the Pacific as an escort and hunter-killer unit, and between 19 May and 31 May she and three sister DEs sank six Japanese submarines using Hedgehog projectors and depth charges. She later took part in operations around Leyte, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa before decommissioning in October 1945.
