The Team Lotus Type 72D earned its place in F1 history with clever packaging and race-proven performance. This 1/12 scale Tamiya kit lets modelers reproduce the car that carried Emerson Fittipaldi to the 1972 championship, capturing key body lines and period details for an authentic display build.
The wedge profile and side-mounted radiators made the Lotus 72D stand out on track. With the Ford Cosworth DFV V8 under the bodywork and innovations like torsion bar suspension and inboard dampers, the 72D combined lightweight thinking with aerodynamic intent to win races in the early 1970s.
This Tamiya kit reproduces working steering and movable suspension components, and presents a detailed DFV engine complete with fuel pipes and ignition leads. Photo-etched radiator and wingtip parts add realism, while metal fittings and synthetic rubber tyres complete the authentic look of the finished model.
