Lightweight aluminium diff shaft for the TA05 range

The TA05-19/LB is an aluminium differential shaft manufactured for use in Tamiya TA05 1/10 touring car platforms. It replaces the stock steel shaft with a machined aluminium piece to provide a tuned balance of mass and rigidity useful for track setup and routine differential servicing.

Fitment covers the TA05, TA05-IFS and TA05-R variants listed in the compatibility notes. The shaft is an internal differential component that interfaces with the existing gears and bearings on those chassis; confirm clearance inside your differential housing before installing.

Installation notes: remove the differential carrier per your chassis manual, service the internal gears and bearings, then fit the new shaft while checking gear mesh and bearing preload. No specialised tools are required beyond typical workshop hex drivers and a small torque driver; deburr mating edges and clear lubricant channels during reassembly.

Tuning role: fitting an aluminium shaft alters rotational inertia and can change the differential's feedback under acceleration and braking, which many drivers use alongside diff oil and gear ratio changes to refine drivetrain feel.

Compatibility

  • Tamiya TA05
  • Tamiya TA05-IFS
  • Tamiya TA05-R
It is made to replace the original shaft in TA05 family diffs, but always check internal clearance and bearing condition when you fit it.
Expect subtle changes in drivetrain feel; combine the shaft swap with diff oil and gear ratio adjustments to notice measurable differences.
Check gear mesh, bearing preload, clean mating surfaces, and reapply the recommended grease or differential lube.
It uses the same bearing locations as the original design; replace any worn bearings while you service the diff.
