The Tamiya 70169 Rescue Crawler is an adaptable educational model that gives builders a practical introduction to robotics and mechanical systems. Geared toward hobbyists and students exploring STEM, the kit combines hands-on assembly with clear examples of gear and drive train principles.
This R/C rescue crawler uses three pairs of tracks to handle uneven ground. The front two track units swing from 80 degrees up to 20 degrees down, helping the model climb and bridge obstacles. A rear-mounted crane arm is fully controllable to simulate picking up and dragging items during practice rescues.
The set contains core mechanical parts including a twin motor gearbox, a 4-speed crank gearbox, and a 3-channel R/C unit. A universal plate is provided for mounting experiments and simple modifications, making the kit useful for lessons in mechanical design and remote control basics.
The model runs on two R20/D/UM1 batteries, which are not supplied with the kit. Supplying batteries separately keeps the kit affordable and lets users choose preferred battery brands.
