Tamiya 9804850 Photo-Etched Track Bag for French B1 bis

This 1/35 scale photo-etched track bag is a detail-up accessory made to enhance external stowage realism on French B1 bis tracked chassis models.

The Char B1 bis was a French heavy tank developed in the 1930s as a breakthrough support vehicle. It combined relatively heavy armor for its time with a hull-mounted short 75 mm gun and a turret 47 mm cannon, and it served during the early stages of World War II. The B1 bis placed priority on protection and off-road mobility within interwar French armored doctrine.

As a photo-etched set, the track bag uses thin etched metal to reproduce fine edges, stitches, and fastener impressions that are hard to achieve with injection-molded parts. Individual pieces are formed and attached to the vehicle exterior to represent the external storage seen in period photos. Typical finishing calls for a light primer and paint to integrate the metal parts; weathering and subtle washes help bring out creases and fastening details.

Specifications

  • Scale: 1/35
  • Part type: Photo-etched metal detail-up accessory

A concentrated photo-etched upgrade aimed at improving external stowage fidelity on 1/35 French B1 bis kits, giving finer surface detail for display-focused builders and collectors.

Bend the parts using a small photo-etch bender or fine flat-nose pliers, working slowly across the bend line. Use a steel ruler as a backing where a straight fold is required to keep edges neat.
Cyanoacrylate (super glue) or a two-part epoxy are common choices. Apply sparingly and support parts while the adhesive cures to maintain alignment with the hull or fender surface.
For a secure fit, light pilot holes or tiny locating notches can help. Mark the position on the hull, then use a fine drill or pin vice to create guides before gluing the etched tabs.
Handle pieces with tweezers and shape them gradually. Test fit without glue first and only apply adhesive once alignment is confirmed to avoid stress on delicate areas.
