The Republic P-47D Thunderbolt, widely known as the "Bubbletop", represents rugged engineering from World War II. First flown in May 1941, the Thunderbolt became valued for its durability and heavy armament. Powered by the R-2800 radial engine delivering up to 2300 hp, many variants carried eight 12.7mm machine guns for substantial firepower.
Tamiya reproduces the P-47D in 1/48 scale with careful attention to the bubble canopy conversion that improved pilot sightlines. The kit captures the aircrafts bulky fuselage and engine housing while giving modellers realistic assembly choices.
This kit doubles as an accurate display replica and a compact study of wartime aircraft development, well suited to collectors and modellers who appreciate engineering detail.
