The Nakajima A6M2-N, commonly called the Rufe, represents Nakajima's conversion of the Mitsubishi Zero into a floatplane fighter during World War II. This Tamiya 1/48 scale kit recreates that adaptation, offering modellers a compact but historically interesting subject to assemble and display.
Developed to provide fighter cover over remote island bases, the A6M2-N combined Zero airframe traits with a single large float and stabilising struts. It first flew on December 8, 1941 and was deployed in the Pacific to extend defense reach where runways were scarce.
The Tamiya kit captures the Rufe's distinctive float and wing armament layout, and is aimed at builders who value accuracy and fine assembly. Finished models make strong display items that highlight wartime ingenuity in seaplane adaptation.
