Tamiya 58280 TXT-1 TAMIYA XTREME TRUCK: ladder-frame 1/8 monster truck emphasizing heavy-duty articulation

Chassis architecture and general layout

The TXT-1 is built around an aluminum ladder-frame chassis that mirrors full-size monster truck construction. Twin motors sit in parallel and transmit power through a prop shaft to both axles, while the gearbox provides a two-stage reduction to package the drivetrain compactly. The kit includes hardware for four-wheel steering plus an extra servo saver, highlighting the mechanical focus of the model rather than pre-fitted electronics.

Suspension and steering mechanics

Suspension uses solid axles with cantilever-style links and multi-link mounts, delivering far greater articulation than small-scale independent setups. Steering servos mount beside the axles for direct linkage, and the steering geometry is split into two tie-rod segments to match the model's robust intent.

Powertrain and drivetrain description

The TXT-1 is equipped to accept two type 540 motors powering a shaft-drive 4WD layout with bevel differential units front and rear. The original specification lists a 3-step speed controller as the referenced ESC type; note that the kit concentrates on the mechanical assembly and gearbox design rather than supplied motor electronics.

Scale presence and mechanical character

Measuring about 510 mm in length with large tires and a broad track, the TXT-1 projects the visual heft and mechanical feel of a classic monster truck. The aluminium frame, 4-link rigid mounts and long-travel dampers create both a display-grade presence and a chassis built for heavy off-road contact.

Suitability for builders and collectors

Offered as a parts-rich kit, this model is targeted at experienced hobbyists who appreciate visible hardware and drivetrain architecture. It suits display-focused collectors as well as builders who enjoy assembling large-scale off-road machines.

you are great the product is well fancy
This is a builder kit that focuses on mechanical parts; motors, ESC and radio gear are not supplied, so you will need to select and install electronics to suit your preferred setup.
Hardware for four-wheel steering is included and uses dedicated servo mounting near the axles. The kit also provides an extra servo saver to protect linkages under load.
The chassis is designed around two type 540 motors. Choose motors and gearing to match your desired balance of torque and top speed while minding the 34:1 gear ratio baseline.
At roughly 510 mm long with a wide track, the TXT-1 emphasises scale presence and long travel over nimble, on-road handling. Expect stable, heavy off-road behavior rather than quick steering response.
A 2- or 3-channel radio system is suitable, with a second channel required if you choose to activate the optional four-wheel steering arrangement.
Experienced hobbyists and collectors who enjoy assembling mechanically transparent, heavy-scale off-road kits will find the TXT-1 most rewarding.
