The Tamiya 1/35 scale model of the German Tank Destroyer Elefant is a finely produced kit that appeals to both collectors and hands-on modellers. This release focuses on historical accuracy and component-level realism to reward careful assembly and painting.
Originally developed by Porsche in 1941 as an evolution of the Ferdinand, the Elefant mounted the powerful 8.8cm PaK 43 L/71 gun. It faced challenges with mobility and mechanical reliability but demonstrated notable firepower at engagements such as the Battle of Kursk. Later field upgrades by 1944 included a machine gun and a commander's cupola, improving its utility on fronts in Italy and Russia and during late-war actions around Berlin.
The kit captures the Elefant's distinctive fighting compartment and boxy superstructure with close attention to proportions. Key features include bolt-on front armor panels, a detailed engine grille, and a mount for the machine gun.
Assembly-type track sections are supplied to reproduce the natural sag and movement of the running gear. The set also contains three crew figures - a commander, a loader and a driver - plus three marking options to create varied display scenes.
