The Russian Heavy Tank JS-2 was named for Joseph Stalin and became a key Soviet breakthrough vehicle during World War II. Introduced in 1944, it was engineered to meet the threat of German 88mm guns and to stand up against heavy opponents like the Tiger and Panther. Its A-19 122mm main gun and protection reaching about 120mm on critical areas gave the JS-2 notable punch and survivability. The Model 1944 is recognised for its distinctive muzzle brake and the sharply sloped front glacis that improved its battlefield resilience.
This 1/35 scale kit from Tamiya accurately captures the bulk and features of the JS-2 Model 1944 ChKZ. Careful reference work shows in details such as the muzzle brake and the sloped front glacis, while included photo-etched parts increase realism around the engine intake grille. Modelers will appreciate the choice between belt-type and assembly-type tracks to suit preferred building technique. The set also contains one commander figure and one loader torso to add life to a display. It makes a solid addition to any collection of Tamiya 1/35 Russian armour or a companion piece to German AFV kits.
