Tamiya 35286 Sd.Kfz.222 - North African Campaign Reissue

The Tamiya 1/35 German Armored Car Sd.Kfz.222 is a longstanding favourite among military modellers, first introduced in 1975 and now reissued for collectors and builders who want a classic subject with extra detailing options.

Background and kit highlights

The Sd.Kfz.222 served as a nimble reconnaissance vehicle in World War II, often operating in desert conditions during the North African Campaign. This Tamiya release recreates that role and gives modellers the parts they need to build an authentic scene.

The reissue comes with photo-etched detailing parts, an aluminum gun barrel for a crisp muzzle, plus three crew figures including a commander and radio operator. A DKW NZ350 motorcycle with a rider is also included to broaden diorama possibilities.

Specifications

  • Scale: 1/35
  • Material: Plastic with photo-etched and aluminum parts
  • Figures: Commander, radio operator, and motorcycle rider included
  • Decals: Three Afrika Korps versions

Excellent Service, Prompt Deliveries, Good Prices. One of the best, if not the best, model e-shop I have dealt with. Strongly Recommended. Keep Up the Good Work.
Photo-etched parts add fine surface detail and thin components like grilles. They are thin and may need a sharp blade, fine files and super glue or CA adhesive to fit cleanly. A pair of fine tweezers and small bending tools help with shaping.
Figures are supplied unpainted so you can apply authentic Afrika Korps tones and weathering. Acrylics or enamel paints both work well; use a primer coat for better adhesion and fine brushes for faces and insignia.
The aluminium barrel is designed to replace the plastic part directly. Test-fit before gluing and trim any injection gate remnants. It improves the muzzle profile and holds paint finishes better than thin plastic.
