The Panzerkampfwagen VI-B Tiger II, commonly called the King Tiger, is a notable example of late WWII heavy armour. Designed to challenge large Soviet tanks, it combined thick frontal armour with a high-velocity 88mm main gun. Production at the Henschel works began in August 1944, but only a limited number were completed.
The King Tiger used a Maybach HL230 P30 V-12 powerplant rated at around 700 horsepower and featured a turret front plate roughly 185mm thick. These authentic details make the subject popular with builders who value historical accuracy and large-scale surface detail.
This Tamiya kit supplies finely moulded plastic components in light brown and black to represent the hull and fittings. The fixed-display model includes an accurate 88mm barrel, flexible track sections, and a commander figure to enhance presentation. Extras such as waterslide decals and a vinyl net for the air intake add realism, and assembly requires standard plastic cement.
