This Tamiya 1/700 model of the U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier CV-3 Saratoga gives hobbyists a chance to assemble a compact, museum-style representation of a famous WWII ship. It belongs to Tamiya's Water Line Series, prized for precise proportions and faithful deck detail.
Launched in April 1925, Saratoga began life intended as a battle cruiser before conversion to an aircraft carrier during construction. That history produced distinctive elements like an enclosed bow and a large funnel. The ship saw active service in WWII and survived heavy damage during operations including the Battle of Iwo Jima in February 1945.
The kit portrays Saratoga as she appeared at the Battle of Iwo Jima. It features a two-part hull and a single-piece flight deck stretching bow to stern, offering a solid base for display. Scale Hellcat and Avenger aircraft are supplied to complete the scene and boost realism.
