The Suzuki GSX1100S Katana is a milestone machine in motorcycle design, known for its sharp, aerodynamic profile and engineering impact. Debuting at the 1980 Cologne Motorcycle Show, the Katana turned heads with a striking silhouette and innovative styling that appealed to riders and designers alike.
Conceptualised by Hans A. Muth, the Katana departed from traditional motorcycle lines to prioritise airflow and rider ergonomics. The resultant bodywork looks purposeful and aerodynamic while still offering a confident seating position favored by sport riders.
Mechanically, the production GSX1100S used an air-cooled 1075cc inline-four with Suzuki's Twin Swirl Combustion Chamber (TSCC) technology. That package produced about 111 horsepower and let the bike reach top speeds near 230 km/h, all while remaining stable thanks to its distinctive styling.
The Tamiya 16025 1/6 scale kit captures the Katana's major visual cues, from the swept fairing to the exposed engine details. The assembly is aimed at hobbyists comfortable with glue and paint, and the finished model makes a convincing display for any collector or workshop shelf.
