This 1/12 scale Tamiya representation of the Honda RC166 GP Racer recreates one of the most celebrated machines from the 1966 Road Racing World Championship season. The kit recalls Mike "The Bike" Hailwood's 250cc success and highlights the RC166's distinctive 6-cylinder layout and six exhaust pipes that marked a major engineering step for Honda.
The RC166 is prized for its pace and engineering, and this Tamiya model mirrors that reputation with period red and silver FRP bodywork, large diameter drum brakes and finely detailed silver spoke wheels. Assembly rewards careful builders who enjoy precision work and authentic presentation.
Notable kit elements include well-defined reproductions of the air-cooled 6-cylinder engine components like the crankcase and cylinder fins, plus very thin metal-plated 0.4mm ABS resin wheel spokes for a realistic finish. The long cowling is produced using slide molding for sharp contours, while the solid rubber tyres match the triangular tread patterns typical of the 1960s.
