This 1/12-scale plastic model kit recreates the 2004 Yamaha YZR-M1 and is presented as a high-detail display item within Tamiya's 1/12 motorcycle lineup.
The 2004 YZR-M1 received development focused on improved traction and chassis response, featuring a revised twin-spar aluminum frame, an inverted swing arm, and upgrades to its 990cc liquid-cooled inline-four engine. That season also saw a notable rider transfer which affected competitive outcomes and produced several memorable race results.
The finished model measures approximately 172 mm in overall length. The compact inline-four and surrounding drivetrain are reproduced for visual accuracy, and the side and seat cowling are made removable after assembly so the engine can be displayed. Tires are molded in synthetic rubber to emulate racing slicks, and newly developed 2.5 mm poly caps are used to ease damper assembly and secure body panels. Cartograf decal sheets are included for rider numbers 46 and 11 with non-cigarette markings.
A faithful 1/12 representation of the 2004 Yamaha YZR-M1 designed for modelers who value accurate external engineering cues and display-ready detail.
