Aluminium centre gearbox upgrade for Tamiya 1/14 rigs

The TRU018 alloy centre gearbox is an aftermarket replacement designed for 1/14 scale Tamiya tractor trucks. It swaps the stock plastic centre gearbox for an aluminium housing and adds a heat sink surface to help lower running temperatures during extended driving. The kit is supplied as a 2pcs set with matching mounting screws for an easy swap.

Built as an RC-scale drivetrain component, this housing increases mechanical stiffness and durability to give a firmer connection between front and rear sections. The gearbox maintains the same drive orientation and mounting points as the original on compatible Tamiya models, making it a direct-fit aluminium upgrade where preferred over the plastic part.

Installation notes: basic disassembly of the centre section is required, remove the original centre gearbox then bolt in the alloy unit using the supplied screws. Verify gear mesh and alignment after fitting and run-in under low load to confirm smooth engagement. Only common RC hex drivers are needed and thread locker is optional depending on your servicing approach.

Compatible Models

  • Tamiya 1/14 Truck King Hauler
  • Globe Liner
  • Ford Aeromax
  • Mercedes Benz 1838ls
  • 1850l

For builders wanting a tougher centre section and improved heat transfer at the heart of a 1/14 Tamiya truck drivetrain, this alloy gearbox provides a direct-fit aluminium option supplied as a 2pcs set with screws.

The machined heat sink increases external surface area and helps dissipate heat from the centre drivetrain. It reduces sustained temperature rise but monitor gear and bearing temps during long runs.
This product replaces the housing only; existing internal gears and bearings remain usable. Inspect and replace any worn parts before installation to ensure proper mesh and longevity.
Basic RC hex drivers are sufficient and most hobbyists can complete the swap in around 30 to 60 minutes depending on experience with truck centre section disassembly.
Thread locker is optional. Use a removable grade if you expect to service the gearbox frequently; a medium or permanent grade can be used for long term security if servicing is rare.
