What batteries should I run with it?

Run the servo between 6.0 and 7.4V. Use a quality 2S LiPo or a compatible Ni-MH pack and ensure your BEC can supply enough current for high-torque loads.

Any tips to keep temperatures down?

Fit the servo with good airflow around the aluminium cases, avoid enclosing it without ventilation, and check mounting to keep the heatsink area exposed.
