This injection-moulded 1/700 assembly kit recreates the Imperial Japanese Navy aircraft carrier Akagi, issued as a new-version in the Fune Next No.4 range to reflect refreshed tooling and enhanced surface detail.

The real Akagi began as a battlecruiser hull that was converted into an aircraft carrier under the Washington Naval Treaty. Commissioned in the late 1920s, Akagi served as a principal carrier in early Pacific War operations until being disabled during the 1942 Midway operation. Its conversion and service influenced carrier development and naval air tactics of the period.

As a new-version release updating earlier tooling, this kit places emphasis on revised hull and flight deck detailing relative to prior releases. The injection plastic format is intended for builders who will paint, decal, and rig the model for display.
