RPX4 capacitor function explained

The Yokomo BL-RPX4C replacement capacitor is fitted to RPX4 series electronic speed controllers to smooth supply voltage and filter short transient noise. Over time electrolytic parts can lose capacitance or show physical wear, which reduces voltage stability and may make the ESC respond sluggishly.

Practical notes for installation and upkeep:

  • Function: Soldered across the main power input, the cap evens voltage spikes and suppresses interference that can upset motor control and telemetry.
  • Compatibility: Designed for RPX4 ESCs and suitable for common 1/10 scale touring and universal chassis installations.
  • Replacement cues: Replace the cap if you spot bulging, leakage, burn marks, or if ESC performance worsens after extended use.
  • Fitting tips: Observe polarity, keep leads short and neat to reduce stray inductance, and match the original capacitance and voltage rating when sourcing a new unit.
  • Maintenance: Check mounting points and wiring for corrosion, loose joints, or heat damage during routine ESC servicing.

Look for visible swelling, electrolyte leakage, discoloured or heat-marked casing, or a sudden drop in ESC performance and stability during runs.
It is intended for RPX4-type controllers; you can fit an equivalent capacitor to other ESCs provided you match the capacitance and voltage rating and maintain correct polarity.
Use a clean solder joint, route leads close to the board, secure the cap with a mount or adhesive, and verify polarity before power-up to avoid damage.
