The SS John W. Brown is a notable Liberty ship that completed 13 important voyages to the Persian Gulf and Mediterranean during World War II. She saw action at the Anzio landings and joined the invasion of southern France during Operation Dragoon in August 1944, where US Navy Armed Guard crews were credited with downing an enemy aircraft. After the war the John W. Brown helped with reconstruction efforts in Europe and brought home American service members.
