Trumpeter 1/350 HMS Abercrombie Monitor - Precision Scale Replica

The Trumpeter 1/350 scale model of the HMS Abercrombie Monitor reproduces the ship with attention to period detail and engineering. Favoured by naval modellers, this kit captures the monitor's wartime profile and provides a rewarding build for those familiar with fine assembly work.

Service Record and Hull Design

The HMS Abercrombie saw active service in the Mediterranean during World War II and earned battle honours at Sicily and Salerno in 1943. Fitted with a turret sourced from HMS Furious and armed with two 15-inch guns, the vessel had a distinctive silhouette before later serving as an accommodation ship until decommissioning in 1954.

Kit Details and Builder Notes

Targeted at experienced builders, this kit includes over 480 parts and precise fittings to recreate the monitor accurately. Metal anchor chain and three photo-etched parts add fine surface detail, while the two-part hull and supplied display stand with engraved nameplate make final presentation straightforward.

Specifications

  • Scale: 1/350
  • Length: 325mm
  • Beam: 77.5mm
  • Total Parts: 480+
  • Metal Parts: Anchor chain
  • Photo Etched Parts: 3 pieces
  • Assembly: Requires glue
The kit is fairly complex and suited to model makers with prior experience in small parts and photo-etched assembly. Expect careful trimming, test-fitting and time for painting and rigging.
Use plastic model cement for the main parts and cyanoacrylate for metal and photo-etched pieces. Acrylic and enamel ship paints both work well; thin coats and weathering washes bring out the fine detail.
