The Grumman F9F Panther is a landmark naval jet, being Grumman's first jet fighter and the second jet type to enter service with the US Navy. Its first flight in 1947 initiated a new chapter in carrier aviation. The Panther used the Rolls-Royce Nene turbojet, built under license by Pratt & Whitney as the J42, and wingtip fuel tanks were fitted to extend its operational range.
The F9F-2P was the photographic reconnaissance version used during the Korean War, providing important imagery from frontline operations. Trumpeter's 1:48 rendition captures the Panther's clean lines and period details, making it a solid choice for anyone interested in Cold War naval aircraft.
This kit includes 124 plastic parts arranged on four sprues, offering a focused build that highlights surface detail. Finished dimensions are 239.7mm in length and a 241.7mm wingspan, giving a compact but display-worthy model. Builders of varying experience will find the assembly gratifying, with opportunities for paint and finish work to showcase the jet's era styling.
