The North American F-100D Super Sabre is an important jet in postwar aviation, noted for being among the early American fighters to see extensive service during the Vietnam conflict. It served in roles from close air support to fighter-bomber missions and first flew in January 1956 following production starts in 1955.
Trumpeter's 1:32 scale interpretation of the F-100D delivers a high level of fidelity for model builders. The kit mirrors the aircraft's clean lines and internal layout, including details that reflect the Pratt & Whitney J57-P-21 powerplant and surrounding structure.
The F-100D was widely deployed across several theatres and replaced older types such as the F-84F Thunderstreak. Heavy operational use in Vietnam meant the type remained in front-line roles until later transitions to other units, delaying some Air National Guard introductions until 1969.
This Trumpeter kit is aimed at advanced hobbyists who value accuracy and fine detail. With 684 plastic parts the assembly is demanding but rewarding, and the completed model spans 516mm long by 369.5mm wide, making it a commanding display model.
