Trumpeter 01635 BAE Lightning F.3 1:72 Replica for Modellers

The BAE Lightning F.3 served as a fast and capable strike and reconnaissance platform that evolved from the Lightning interceptor line. This 1:72 scale kit by Trumpeter models the aircrafts defining lines and gives hobbyists a faithful small-scale project to build and display.

Service History and Performance

First flown in 1959 with the F.3 entering operational service around 1964, the Lightning F.3 is known for its twin Avon engines and the ability to carry Red-Top missiles plus optional fuel pods. The type stood out for its speed and advanced avionics compared to contemporaries.

Kit Highlights and Collector Notes

The Trumpeter assembly contains 72 plastic parts and includes optional position flaps to vary display. It reproduces the Lightnings square-tip fin and slim fuselage, making it a compact addition to any 1:72 collection and simple to pair with other Cold War jets.

This Trumpeter kit is aimed at intermediate builders. The small detailed parts reward careful assembly and some experience with plastic cement and filling techniques.
The kit does not include decal markings, so you can choose aftermarket decals or paint your own schemes to match reference photos.
Use standard polystyrene cement for joins and thin CA for small details. For finishes, acrylic or enamel modelling paints with a primer coat give the best surface and colour adherence.
