The Tamiya 71107 Mechanical Insect R/C Kit provides a practical introduction to basic robotics and radio control. Made for hobbyists getting started with mechanics and electronics, the kit balances an approachable assembly with visible mechanical action for learning and play.
This build uses a twin gearbox arrangement so each side of legs is driven separately. The preassembled gearboxes cut down on tricky assembly steps. Running both gearboxes together moves the insect in a straight line, while driving them against each other makes it turn, showcasing simple mechanical steering concepts.
The two-stick transmitter lets users steer each gearbox independently, giving fine control over forward, reverse and turning manoeuvres. Practising with the controller helps newcomers understand differential drive and joystick coordination in RC vehicles.
Alongside mechanical learning, the kit comes with parts for a casual soccer-style game where the insect can push a small ball. Stickers for numbering add a custom touch and encourage creative play, teamwork and basic strategy during matches.
