The Tamiya 1/700 IJN Destroyer Sakura kit recreates the Tei Type escort destroyer used by the Japanese Navy in World War II. The Sakura, commissioned late in 1944, represents wartime production priorities with simplified but effective features, and this kit reflects those characteristics for historical modelers.
The Tei Type was conceived for quick production and practical service, and the kit illustrates that focus with authentic fittings. The Sakura is shown with her anti-aircraft batteries, including multiple 25mm mounts, plus details such as anchors, masts and the No.13 air search radar that modelers will notice.
At a finished length of 143mm the model offers a compact but satisfying assembly, with finely moulded parts and accessories. Waterslide decals and small metal elements are included to aid realism and improve display stability for a neat shelf presentation.
