The Tamiya 1/700 scale model of the IJN Destroyer Ayanami honours one of Japan's notable naval vessels from World War II. As the first of the Type II destroyers, Ayanami was launched in 1930 and took part in actions such as the invasion of Malaya, the Battle of Midway, and the Battle of Eastern Solomons. This kit captures the ship's pre-war appearance, letting builders study its layout and historical role.
The Ayanami-class destroyers gained attention for their advanced design and armament for the era. The kit reproduces distinctive Type II elements including funnel profiles, the bridge arrangement, and turret shapes that differ from earlier Fubuki-class vessels. Precision-moulded small parts such as anti-aircraft weapons and ship boats add realistic detail for collectors and seasoned modellers.
This precise model kit offers an absorbing build that rewards careful work, making it best suited to experienced hobbyists. Metal fittings included for flotation assistance and the supplied waterslide decals improve assembly and finishing. When finished, the model measures 157mm long and makes an effective display piece for naval collections and dioramas.
