The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a defining example of Cold War era naval aviation. Designed under the Naval Fighter Experimental program, this twin-engine supersonic fighter served the United States Navy from the mid 1970s into the 2000s. The F-14A is recognised for its variable-sweep wings and multirole capability as both an interceptor and air superiority fighter.
Tamiya's 1/48 rendition captures fine surface detail and functional elements. The finished fuselage measures 398mm long, and the wingspan adjusts between 212mm and 408mm to reflect the Tomcat's sweep. The kit includes movable swing wings that can be set between roughly 20 and 75 degrees, and builders can pose the aircraft with landing gear down for a parked display.
This kit provides separate parts to represent different airbag and sealing plate shapes and a canopy that can be modelled open. A boarding ladder and steps are supplied to display either stowed or extended arrangements. Three decal choices are included, covering two U.S. Navy squadron schemes and one for the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force, giving room to personalise the finished model.
