The Reggiane Re.2002 played a notable role in the Italian Air Force during World War II, developed as an evolution of the Re.2000. Powered by a stout air-cooled engine and fitted with multiple machine guns, the type served in several frontline roles, including missions during the Allied invasion of Sicily in 1943. After the armistice, a number of aircraft operated alongside Allied units.
This 1/48 scale kit from Tamiya, featuring some airframe parts by Italeri, captures the compact proportions and narrow engine cowlings of the original Re.2002. The finished model measures approximately 170mm in length with a 229mm wingspan and offers canopy options for open or closed display as well as adjustable flap positions for posed builds.
The kit also includes a 500kg drop tank and assorted airfield accessories such as fuel drums and jerry cans to help create a period diorama. A seated pilot figure and decal sheets cover markings for Regia Aeronautica and Luftwaffe examples, and a photographic reference booklet supports accurate finishing and rigging.
