All-Purpose Lacquer for Scale Hobbyists

Tamiya's LP-74 Flat Earth lacquer paint provides a reliable option for hobbyists and kit builders. Ideal for military detailing and weathered diorama work, this 10ml bottle delivers consistent flat tones that suit both brush and airbrush techniques. The lacquer base is valued for its toughness and works well as a base under enamel finishes.

Fast Drying with a Durable Finish

The formula dries quickly so you can build up layers without long waits. Once cured the paint forms a hard film that tolerates handling, whether you are spraying broad areas or painting small accents by hand. Use the recommended lacquer thinner to reach the right flow for your equipment.

Colour Matching Advisory

Note that LP-74 may appear slightly different from Tamiya acrylics or spray equivalents with the same name. This shift in hue and sheen can help produce subtle depth in your schemes, but test on scrap material if an exact match is needed.

You should thin LP-74 before airbrushing. Start with a lacquer thinner at about a 10-20 percent ratio and adjust to your airbrush and pressure for a smooth spray.
Use a Tamiya lacquer thinner or equivalent. Small adjustments are best, typically 5-20 percent for brushing and 10-25 percent for airbrushing depending on nozzle size and pressure.
Lacquer can interact with some acrylic topcoats; it generally bonds well under enamels but always try a small compatibility test first. Allow sufficient cure time between different paint systems.
