The USS New Jersey (BB-62) served for more than four decades and is represented here in 1/350 scale with careful attention to her late service appearance. This Tamiya release captures the ship's upgraded 1980s configuration so builders can reproduce that modernized look accurately.
Commissioned in 1943 as the second Iowa-class battleship, the USS New Jersey took part in many key operations before final decommissioning in 1991. The original kit from 1984 has been updated with detail-up parts to allow a truer rendition of her later refit.
The set contains injection-moulded plastic together with photo-etched components to represent items like AA radars, surface search arrays and Link 11 antennae. Metal screw shafts are included and there are options shown for SH-60B helicopters. Builders can further enhance the model using the supplied parts for 5-inch turret detail and improved fire control elements.
Finished builds make striking display pieces thanks to the kit's fine components and included historical booklet. The model is well suited to collectors who want a compact but detailed representation of a notable US battleship.
