The U.S. Aircraft Carrier Hornet earned a notable place in naval history as the eighth carrier of the U.S. Navy and the third Yorktown-class ship produced under treaty limits. Built with strong anti-torpedo protection, the Hornet carried a relatively modest anti-aircraft fit of eight single-barrel 5-inch guns. Driven by steam turbines delivering about 120,000 horsepower, she could make speeds up to 34 knots.
This 1/700 kit from Tamiya captures the Hornet's silhouette and structural details, giving model builders a chance to recreate the vessel with fine accuracy. The parts set supports careful painting and rigging work, producing a compact display piece that highlights WWII carrier engineering.
