The Tamiya 71111 Mechanical Pig gives a practical introduction to simple mechanical principles. As a member of Tamiya's Robocraft Series, this kit is built for straightforward assembly and playful movement, with the pig's head rocking as it walks to illustrate motion mechanics.
The model uses pink semi-transparent ABS resin parts and comes with a small gearbox, motor, and a reverse switch so the head moves while the body walks. Assembly uses a mix of screws and snap-fit parts to keep the build approachable for first-time model makers.
Measuring about 135mm in length and weighing roughly 95g without batteries, the Mechanical Pig is compact and lightweight. It runs on a single R04/AAA/UM4 battery (sold separately) and an alkaline cell will typically deliver around one hour of continuous operation. A tiny flag can be fixed to the back for extra character.
This little walker performs best on flat, smooth floors. Avoid slopes, rough surfaces, or thick carpet to keep the mechanism running freely. Once built, it doubles as a cute display piece as well as an educational tool.
