The Tamiya 70248 Roller Skating Robot is a practical STEM kit that helps hobbyists and students discover basic mechanical motion and linkage behaviour through hands-on assembly. It is part of Tamiya's educational range and is designed to make principles of movement tangible and easy to follow.
This roller skating model reproduces a swizzle action where the legs open and close to create forward motion. Adjustable rudders on the skate plates let you bias the robot to steer left or right by changing their angles. The clear blue body reveals the gearbox and linkages for easy observation, while the white body is supplied ready for custom paint and decoration.
The kit combines snap-fit parts with a few screws to keep build time straightforward for beginners. It runs on a Type 130 motor and uses a single AA battery (sold separately), reaching about 33.3 cm/s. For track projects, optional universal arms can be fitted so the unit can run along rails, sold separately.
