The Tamiya 70243 Triple Crawler is part of the STEM Series and is built to give hobbyists a tangible way to study simple mechanics. The kit is classroom friendly and also appeals to casual builders who enjoy constructive, hands-on projects.
The model uses two larger front crawlers plus a smaller tail crawler to create a flexible drive arrangement. The rear crawler works as a stabiliser to help balance the model on uneven ground or when descending edges. With alternate side part fitting the Triple Crawler can also travel on its side, which expands the ways it can move over obstacles.
This kit includes the Mini Motor Slim Gearbox (2-Speed), allowing builders to examine how gearing affects speed and torque. The gearbox provides a simple introduction to robotics-style drive systems while remaining easy to assemble and understand.
Built for display or demonstration, the finished model measures 178.6mm long, 97mm wide and 72.3mm tall. It runs on two AAA batteries (sold separately), making it a low-barrier project for those learning about mechanical assemblies and small motor drives.
