The Tamiya 70113 4 Wheel Drive Chassis Kit gives a hands-on introduction to basic mechanics and drivetrain concepts. As part of Tamiya's STEM Series, it is aimed at learners and hobbyists who want to explore how a 4WD layout transmits power and copes with rough surfaces.
This kit includes a pre-cut wooden chassis to speed up assembly while keeping structural strength. The layout uses a shaft-drive arrangement across four wheels, reflecting the engineering used in larger 4WD vehicles. That arrangement helps the model move over uneven ground and shows real-world mechanical principles.
Drive torque is routed from the central gearbox to the wheel gearboxes by a hex shaft, delivering consistent four-wheel drive operation. Semi-pneumatic tyres add grip on loose surfaces, and a fitted roll bar helps protect the structure in the event of a tip or rollover.
The kit is well suited to demonstrating power transmission, gear interaction and vehicle dynamics. It works well for classroom demonstrations, club workshops or personal projects where the builder wants to experiment with gear ratios and chassis behaviour.
