The Bristol Beaufighter Mk.VI demonstrated adaptability and punch during WWII. Entering service in September 1940, it carried four nose-mounted 20mm cannons plus six 7.7mm machine guns, making it one of the more heavily armed fighters of the period.
When the Luftwaffe shifted to night raids in late 1940, the Beaufighter was adapted as a night fighter with Airborne Interception radar, creating early Mk.1F versions. The later Mk.VI received 1,670hp Hercules VI engines, a rear-facing 7.7mm defensive gun and a modified tailplane for improved handling. More than 5,900 airframes were built and the type served across Europe, the Mediterranean, North Africa, the Middle East and the Pacific.
The Tamiya 1/48 scale representation of the Bristol Beaufighter Mk.VI provides accurate cockpit detail and weapon layout for a realistic display model. The kit rewards careful assembly and painting, and is well suited to builders who have some experience with glue-required kits and multiple small parts.
