The Focke-Wulf Fw190A-3 was a key German fighter from World War II, developed under Kurt Tank at Focke-Wulf Flugzeugbau. Created to work alongside the Messerschmitt Bf109, it used the rugged BMW 801 radial engine and earned a reputation for strong performance and manoeuvrability during operations over the English Channel in 1941.
Entering service in 1941, the A-3 quickly proved a capable adversary. Its engineering, led by the BMW 801Dg powerplant rated at about 1,700hp, gave it the speed and climb to challenge machines like the Spitfire Mk V until later developments such as the Spitfire IX. The A-3 carried a heavy armament fit with six machine guns for concentrated firepower in dogfights.
This 1/48 scale Tamiya kit reproduces the Fw190A-3 with refined moulding and accurate surface detail. Builders will find parts that represent the engine installation and armament layout faithfully, making it an attractive project for display or further detailing work.
