The Ilyushin IL-2 Shturmovik earned its reputation as a tough ground-attack aircraft during World War II and was built in very large numbers, with over 36,000 examples produced. First appearing as a single-seater in March 1941, it later gained a two-seat layout for improved crew coordination, and late 1943 changes to the wing shape boosted its performance.
This 1/72 scale Tamiya kit lets modellers recreate the IL-2 Shturmovik with careful attention to the airframe profile. The finished model measures 162mm long and 203mm across the wings, capturing the aircrafts sturdy silhouette. Key engine bay elements such as the intake duct, radiator and oil cooler are modelled, and the two-seat cockpit and wheel wells are neatly executed for good in-scale appearance.
