The P-47D Thunderbolt earned the "Razorback" nickname from its distinctive fuselage hump and was a key US fighter in World War II. As an early single-seat fighter with a supercharger and a roughly 2000hp engine, it could operate at the bomber escort altitudes of the era. Equipped with eight 12.7mm machineguns, the Thunderbolt saw extensive service escorting Allied bomber formations and conducting ground attack sorties thanks to its heavy payload capacity and rugged construction.
This 1/72 scale release from Tamiya recreates the early-production P-47D with careful attention to the rear fuselage and belly contours. The kit uses left-right symmetric parts and includes alignment beams to help ensure accurate wing assembly and a true-to-type silhouette.
