The Tamiya 1/72 Kawanishi N1K1-Ja Shiden Type 11 Koh model kit reproduces one of World War II's notable Japanese fighters in compact scale. The design began life as the Kawanishi N1K1 "Kyofu" floatplane and was developed into a land-based fighter by Kawanishi Aircraft in 1942. That private venture produced an aircraft praised for its handling and agility on the battlefield.
The operational Shiden was powered by the Nakajima Homare engine, which necessitated a large propeller and the use of telescopic landing gear to fit the mid-wing layout. While crew reported persistent concerns about gear and engine reliability, roughly 1,000 examples were built and deployed across the Philippines, Formosa, Okinawa and over Honshu.
This kit gives scale modellers a chance to reproduce a historically significant fighter using Tamiya quality moulding and detail. The parts invite careful assembly and painting, letting builders recreate wartime markings and display a convincing final model. It is a compact project well suited to both collectors and hobbyists seeking a realistic Pacific theatre subject.
