The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution first turned out within 1973 World Rally Championships. The car made sporadic appearances in rally tasks until 1993. The Lance's first great success finished up being achieved in 1996 and 1997 utilising the Evo III and IV. In 1998 the Evo V debuted with an excellent body, flared fenders and big right back wing. Driven by Tommi Makinen, the Evo V proceeded to win the 1998 Manufacturers' Championship and WRC Drivers' Championship.
