The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution line has long been a cornerstone of rally history. The Evo V earned widespread recognition after its strong campaign in the 1998 World Rally Championship, with Tommi Makinen leading the model to Manufacturers and Drivers titles and confirming its place in rally lore.
This Tamiya 58461 kit recreates the Evo V in 1/10 scale, complete with a tough polycarbonate shell that mirrors the car's flared arches and large rear wing. The DF-03Ra chassis beneath uses a 4WD shaft-driven layout to give predictable traction and composure across loose and hard surfaces.
The model uses the established DF-03 drivetrain and includes front and rear ball differentials for even torque split. The suspension is built with generous travel to cope with mixed-surface rally stages, and the supplied rally tyres improve grip on gravel and dirt.
Builders can fine-tune the DF-03Ra with adjustable rear suspension arms for wheelbase tweaks and threaded upper shafts to change camber. The kit ships with a type 540 motor and several gear choices, allowing drivers to tailor gearing to their preferred driving conditions.
The Tamiya 58461 is well suited to rally fans and RC hobbyists who value a balance of classic rally heritage and practical chassis engineering. Its adaptable DF-03Ra platform gives a good foundation for newcomers and a workable base for experienced tuners.
