When Suzuki stepped into the World Rally Championship with the SX4 it marked a notable motorsport move. The compact five-door hatchback was adapted into a wide-bodied rally car with upgraded suspension and a turbocharged 300hp engine that helped it score points on debut at the 2008 Monte Carlo Rally driven by Toni Gardemeister and Per-Gunnar Andersson.
The Tamiya 58408 model uses the evolved TT-01 Type-E platform which adds several practical upgrades. A Parts and D Parts are made from fiberglass reinforced resin for greater toughness and easier upkeep. Steering has been refined with TA05 steering posts for crisper response, and the redesigned upper deck raises chassis stiffness while providing a transponder mount for track use.
The kit includes a lightweight polycarbonate SX4 WRC shell with injection molded side mirrors and a rear wing to capture the WRC look. Metal plated light cases accept LEDs to light up the front and rear. The package also contains an ESC (TEU-101BK) and a Type 540 motor so the model has the core electronics needed once assembled.
The Tamiya 58408 is a good pick for hobbyists who want genuine rally styling with a chassis that can be tuned for club tracks or casual bashing. Its durable parts and upgrade potential suit both newcomers and experienced builders fine tuning setup.
