Will changing to 55T or 58T harm my motor or electronics?

Using a smaller spur gear raises top speed and can increase motor load. It is wise to monitor motor temperature and adjust gearing back if you notice excessive heat or current draw.

Do I need a special pinion gear when fitting the 53665 set?

In most cases the existing pinion will work, but check mesh and tooth engagement after fitting. Adjust pinion size only if you want a different final ratio or to correct gear mesh.

Is this an easy upgrade for new hobbyists?

Yes. The 53665 gears install with basic tools and clearances are achieved by standard gear mesh adjustments. If you can remove the spur and refit it, you can complete this upgrade.
