Tune your Manta Ray with the Tamiya 53070 Ball Differential

For drivers wanting crisper handling and improved drivetrain life, the Tamiya 53070 Ball Differential Set is built for 1/10 scale electric off-road use. This kit helps deliver steadier traction and more predictable cornering on loose or rough tracks.

Core parts and advantages

The ball differential kit contains precision components made to last and improve control:

  • Differential Spur Gear: Lightweight, durable plastic gear that balances strength and reduced rotating mass.
  • Metal Components: Pressure plates, thrust washers and gearbox links made from metal for reliable support under load.
  • Disk Springs and O-Rings: Provide consistent preload and sealing, helping the diff respond smoothly to drivetrain loads.

Fitting advice for best results

When installing the set, use the supplied diff grease to coat moving parts and mating surfaces. Correct lubrication lowers wear and ensures the differential runs smoothly. Inspect the assembly regularly, especially after dusty or wet runs, to maintain performance.

Having purchased multiple items from these guys I couldn't be more happier to carry on purchasing parts for my RC cars.
It is designed for the Manta Ray layout but may fit other Tamiya 1/10 models that share the same gearbox spacing. Verify your chassis layout and part numbers before fitting.
Use the included diff grease for initial assembly. For different track conditions you can experiment with thicker or thinner diff oils, but start with the supplied grease to set the preload correctly.
Check the diff after every few sessions or after driving in mud or heavy dust. Look for play in the gears, degraded O-rings, or a drop in compound performance and re-lubricate as needed.
