Longtime RC racers will recognise the Super Astute name. First released in 1991, this 2WD off-road buggy earned a strong following for its innovative layout and on-track performance. The Tamiya 47381 reissue brings the original character back with targeted upgrades, preserving the classic feel while improving durability for modern use.
The Super Astute uses a 2.5mm FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) chassis for strength and a low center of gravity. That combination helps the car stay composed through fast direction changes and keeps handling predictable whether you are practising on loose dirt or packed tracks.
The sealed gearbox design carries over from the classic, but this release adds Tamiya's TTC slipper clutch. The slipper helps reduce sudden wheelspin and cushions gear shocks, so motor torque transfers more smoothly and components last longer under aggressive driving.
This kit features a four-wheel double wishbone suspension and CVA oil dampers, giving a measured response across rough surfaces. The front rib-spike tyres and square spike rear tyres provide predictable steering and traction balance for corner exits and loose-surface acceleration.
Whether you are updating a collection or building a period-accurate racer, the Super Astute delivers a blend of vintage design and practical upgrades that suit both track sessions and display builds.
