Back to Classic Monster truck fun with the Tamiya Lunch Box X-SA

For hobbyists who love vintage RC vibes but want less build time, the Tamiya Lunch Box X-SA fits the bill. This iconic 1/12 scale monster truck brings the original playful look with modern ease, arriving in the X-SA (Expert-Semi-Assembled) format so you can spend more time driving and less time assembling.

What the X-SA package includes

The X-SA models are aimed at drivers who want quality without a full build. The chassis comes pre-assembled and includes the TEU-105BK electronic speed control (ESC). The body is fully painted with stickers already applied, so once you install your radio gear, steering servo, and a 7.2-volt battery pack the truck is ready to hit the track or the yard.

Heritage styling and accurate scale details

The Lunch Box wears the classic bright yellow styrene shell that fans remember, scaled to 1/12. Its striking yellow rims and large 115mm tyres not only capture the vintage look but also give solid grip for loose surfaces and light trail work.

Rugged 2WD chassis built for playful driving

Under the body is a sturdy box-type 2WD chassis with a front swing-arm independent setup and a rear rolling rigid suspension for predictable handling. The sealed gearbox keeps internals protected from muck and the rear wheelie bar is perfect for wheelies and showy runs.

Whether you want a shelfworthy classic or a fun off-road runner, the Tamiya Lunch Box X-SA gives an approachable mix of nostalgia and ready-to-run convenience for RC fans.

The kit includes a pre-assembled chassis with the TEU-105BK ESC fitted. You will still need to supply a 2-channel radio, steering servo, and a 7.2V battery and charger.
The Lunch Box is set up for a 7.2V NiMH stick pack as standard. If you consider LiPo use, check voltage limits for the ESC and ensure correct connectors and a compatible charger.
The styrene body is true to the original style and reasonably durable, but like all plastic shells it can crack under heavy impact. Replacement shells are available if you prefer spares for bashing sessions.
Its 115mm tyres and suspension suit grass, hard-packed dirt, and light trails. Avoid deep mud or heavy rock gardens unless you add protection and upgrades.
